    2020考研英语：状语从句要如何翻译?
    一、识别状语从句
    第一步要要了解其概念，顾名思义，状语从句就是指：一个句子在整个状语从句中充当状语成分。在考研英语中，主要考让步状语，时间状语，条件状语和原因状语这四种状语从句。
    第二步识别状语从句的常考的连词，进而知道这是具体哪类状语从句，再进行翻译。
    常考连词：
    让步状语从句：while, although, though, no matter how, whatever, whenever, wherever等
    时间状语从句：when, as, until, before等
    条件状语从句：if, in case等
    原因状语从句：because, since, for+句子
    二、状语从句的翻译
    1. 让步状语从句：
    (1)让步状语从句有明显的标志词如although,though, even if, even though，while等引导时，从句部分翻译前置。
    It doesn’t feel like a human or democratic relationship, even if both sides benefit.
    条件状语从句在句首，翻译时直译即可，这里even if引导的从句在句末这时翻译时需前置。
    即使对双方有利，这感觉也不像是人类的或者民主的关系。
    (2)还有一类以whatever，whenever，wherever，no matter wh-引导词引导的让步状语从句，通常译为不论...，无论...，不管...。
    Perhaps the places they have been to , the places they want to go, the things they like, the things they hate&mdashwhatever you talk about.
    Whatever引导的条件状语从句，翻译的时候也是前置，译为无论...。无论你在谈论什么，可能是他们去过的地方，他们想去的地方，他们喜欢或是讨厌的东西。
    2. 时间状语从句：
    (1)翻译时间状语从句时，翻译时一般把从句前置翻译，也就是与汉语表达一样。
    As the cost to everyone else has become clearer, politicians have begun to clamp down.
    这里是as引导的时间状语从句，翻译时直译即可。随着其他人所有人付出的代价越来越明显，政客们已经开始镇压。
    The court cannot maintain its legitimacy as guardian of the rule of law when justices behave like politicians.
    这里是when引导的时间状语从句，翻译时要把从句的翻译前置。当法官像政客那样表现时，法院将不能保持它作为法律规则守护者的合法性。
    (2)翻译成固定句型，由hardly... when, no sooner... than, as soon as...等连词引导时间状语从句时，常常翻译成刚...就...。
    As soon as he heard the news, he cried.
    这里用的是固定句型as soon as，翻译时就译为刚...就... 他刚听到这个消息，就大哭起来。
    3. 条件状语从句：
    (1)条件从句一般以if, in case等连词引导，翻译时，一般把从句部分前置,翻译为如果...或若...。
    If you and I parachuted back to Fortune 500 companies in 1990, we would see much less frequent use of terms like journey, mission, passion.
    这里是由if引导的虚拟条件状语从句，这里if条件句就在句首，直译即可。如果我和你空降到20世纪90年代财富500强企业，我们将会发现很少使用诸如‘旅程’‘使命’‘激情’等术语。
    It will retain a large part of the coalition’s spending plans if it returns to power.
    这是if引导的条件状语从句，先翻译if引导的句子(即翻译时从句前置)，再翻译主句。如果它重新执政的话，它将保留联邦的大部分支出计划。
    (2)条件状语从句翻译时也可省略连词。
    If you look hard enough, you’ll find that many of the products we use every day&mdashchewing gums, skin moisturizers, disinfecting wipes, air fresheners, water purifiers, health snacks, teeth whiteners, fabric softeners, vitamins&mdashare results of manufactured habits.
    这也是由if引导的条件状语从句，首先先断句，可先把双破折号的内容单独出来，置后，然后翻译剩下的句子，此时的连词可略译。仔细观察，发现我们日常使用的很多产品都是制造习惯的结果，如口香糖、润肤霜、消毒湿巾、空气清新剂、净化器、健康零食、牙齿增白剂、衣物柔顺剂和维生素等。
    4. 原因状语从句：
    原因状语从句翻译时，通常放在句首，译为因为...所以，或者是之所以...是因为...。
    They attract massive attention precisely because they remain the exception to the rule.
    这里就是由because引导的原因状语从句，翻译时可用之所以...是因为这样的翻译来翻。他们之所以会引起广泛关注，是因为他们仍然是规则中的例外。
    It’s a sad reality&mdashour desire to avoid interacting with other human beings&mdashbecause there’s much to be gained from talking to the stranger standing by you.
    这里由because引导的，看着比较复杂，但其实也是符合这个翻译，先把破折号里面的句子翻译出来再直译整个句子。我们渴望避免与其他人交流，之所以这是一个可悲的事实，是因为与站在你旁边的陌生人的谈话，你会收获很多。
    英语状语从句的翻译大致分为这几种翻译，若状语从句在句首，直译即可;若状语从句在句末，翻译置前，译文会较为流畅;每种状语从句翻译中又略有差别，因此分别举例说明，可能是固定搭配翻译，也可能翻译时省略连词。
