Hope Project(希望工程) "Hope Project" was started in the October of 1989.It aimed to help children in poor areas to receive proper education. Almost everyone in cities,from government officials,businessmen to common p eople,is very active in offering their money to the project.From 1989 to 1997,1. 257 million yuan was collected;1.847,000 children were helped back to schools;5. 256 Hope Primary Schools were set up and hundreds of teachers teaching in thos e schools were trained.The project will continue to improve school conditions i n poor areas and promote(促进) the development of education in China.
